Melon

A required flavour of summer.

Fruit or vegetable, dessert or salad, aromatic melon is one of the ingredients that make summer parties and festivities so refreshing.  Dating back to the 70’s and 80’s of the twentieth century, the haute cuisine of melon with prosciutto has earned its extraordinary reputation.

Spain can boast of producing some of the best melons in the world, highly aromatic and fragrant. Villaconejos melons from Madrid, although still not quality certified as Designation of Origin, are the most respected and sought after. However, there are 2 Spanish melons categorized under the quality system of Designation of Origin: Melon de la Mancha and Melon de Torre Pacheco-Murcia, both which are of the piel de sapo (toad skin) variety.

Advice
  • We recommend a fine pairing, but not mixed together; to prevent water from wet melon spoiling the slices of ham.

  • The sweet, steamy flavour of melon soups and gazpacho, on the other hand, are enhanced by the contrast of ham.
